Queensland's Granite Belt is a unique elevated plateau (800m-100m above sea level) with cold winter temperatures down to -10 degrees C in 2006, and mean summer January temperatures averaging 20.1degrees C. This is a climatic temperature range very similar to Australia's best wine districts. The natural environment is ruggedly beautiful abounding in granite boulders. A host of mountainous ranges spring from the valley floor. Elevations of vineyards scattered around the district vary from 680 m at Ballandean to 850 m at our Balancing Boulder Vineyard, making it one of the highest commercial vineyards in Australia. This variation makes for considerable microclimatic variation between vineyard sites and differences in wine quality. |
