Tourist information about Central America

A travel or holiday guide will give important information about tourist destinations, accommodation reviews and ratings, as well as some historical and statistical information about the country such as population size, climate, ethnic groups, language, type of government, main industries, and so on.

Central America consists of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Central America begins at the narrow Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in southern Mexico. The southernmost geological limit of Central America is the Atrato River valley, in Colombia, South America. The region has a population of approximately 36.4 million. Central America has at least 14 active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes due to its situation on the western edge of the Caribbean plate.
A substantial majority of the people of Central America are Native Americans or mestizos (people of mixed heritage, chiefly of Spanish and Native American descent). Along the narrow Caribbean coast blacks and mulattoes (people of mixed white and black-African backgrounds) predominate. About half of the people of Belize are of black-African or partly black-African ancestry.
Spanish is the official language of all Central American countries except Belize, where English is the language of government. Many highland Native Americans use traditional languages, such as Quiché, Mam, and Kekchí in Guatemala, and Chortí in Honduras. Some Native Americans also speak Spanish as well. Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion of Central America.

Information about South America

South America consists of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the Falkland Islands, the French Guinana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. South America, fourth largest of the Earth's seven continents (after Asia, Africa, and North America). The northern and western fringes are dominated by the Andes Mountains, the second highest mountain range in the world. Most of the eastern coast is fringed by the broader and generally less elevated highland areas of the Guiana and Brazilian massifs and the Patagonian Plateau. The main lowland is the vast Amazon Basin in the equatorial part of the continent; it is drained by the Amazon River, the world's second longest river.
South America has a 2007 estimated population of 380 million, or 6 percent of the world's people. Although South America's population has a diverse ethnic heritage, its principal elements are the Native Americans and the descendants of Spaniards, Portuguese, and African blacks. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil; English, of Guyana; Dutch, of Suriname; and French, of French Guiana. Among the scores of Native American languages, Quechua, Aymara, and Guaraní are spoken by the largest numbers of people. Portuguese is the most spoken language in South America as it's the official language of Brazil, which holds about 51% of the South American population. Spanish is the official language of most countries in the continent.
South America is unusual among the continents for its religious homogeneity. About 90 percent of the population is Roman Catholic. Most of the Protestants are in Brazil and Chile; the remainder are widely distributed, primarily in urban centers.

South America Destinations
http://south-america.com.au/

For me, few continents elicit such envy, and provoke such passionate pleas of "take me with you", as does South America. For Australians, this is the last unexplored land. From my first foray into this continent in 1970, when I undertook an expedition for 11 months with my own mini bus, until now, I have always found this dark and exotic continent, swathed in mystery, to be effervescent with excitement and deserving of every travel cliche in the book. It is probably the most underrated, and widely misunderstood, destination.
South America is a huge continent, two and a half times the size of Australia: a potpourri of cultures and traditions, from primitive tribes who have rarely seen white man, to the oldest European graciousness that is the legacy of the Spanish and Portuguese colonists, along with the evocative remains of some of the world's most magnificent civilizations.

Adventure Collective
http://www.adventurecollective.com.au/

There are parts of the world that are simply ideal for travelling on mountain bikes. The Northern Patagonian Andes is one of them. Our journey takes you through fascinating contrasts between the magical landscapes of the Patagonian Steppe in Argentina, the mountains and lakes of the Andean Forests, to the volcanoes and sub-Antarctic rainforest beyond the Andes Range in Chile.
You will cross the Andes Range on your bike, as we ride over a backroad deep within the Lanin Volcano National Park, over the shores of impressive lakes, whose turquoise and emerald waters deep inside magical forests will create lasting memories! We will also experience the best of the Chilean volcanoes, crossing native forests of monkey-puzzle tree and southern beech. Spend a magical evening in exclusive thermal baths, a true delight after days of so much adventure. Take pleasure in the region’s excellent culinary delights: always abundant, healthy, and of course delicious. This is not only a great holiday, but the cycle journey of a lifetime.

Best Cruises - South America
http://www.bestcruises.com.au/regions/south_america

Experience the richness and passion of one of the world’s most vibrant continents. Witness an abundant array of wildlife and spectacular natural scenery, with sea-lions, elephant seals, penguins, whales, cascading waterfalls and icy glaciers all vying for your attention, in between cosmopolitan cities and snow-capped Andean peaks. Learn of lost cities, ancient civilisations and time-honoured customs; canyons deeper than the Grand Canyon, where the giant Condor soars; spectacular fjords, volcanoes, crystal lakes and Amazonian jungle: all beckon you ashore.
Choose your cruise carefully; a voyage from Buenos Aires to Santiago or vice versa will showcase the wildlife of Patagonia and the fjordlands of Chile, whereas a cruise round-trip from Rio de Janeiro is more likely to focus on the beautiful beaches, rhythms and vibes of Brazilian culture, from the African slave city of Salvador to the Dutch colonial town of Olinda; guaranteed to be particularly lively before and during Carnival time!

South America with Deep Powder Tours
http://www.deeppowdertours.com/

The Andes range that splits Argentina and Chile is highest in the world outside central Asia, so it's not surprising that this is home to the Southern Hemisphere's biggest and best ski resorts. Ranging from high altitude powder in the north to a mix of above and below treeline options as you head south there is something to suit all skier and riders.
Throw in that crazy Latin American party lifestyle - sleep when you're dead seems to be the motto, but actually they take a siesta after skiing and so can go the distance later - and the great seafood in Chile and awesome steaks in argentina, washed down by plenty of great vino and you have a snow holiday experience to rival anywhere.
