Tourist information about Central America

A travel or holiday guide will give important information about tourist destinations, accommodation reviews and ratings, as well as some historical and statistical information about the country such as population size, climate, ethnic groups, language, type of government, main industries, and so on.

Central America consists of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Central America begins at the narrow Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in southern Mexico. The southernmost geological limit of Central America is the Atrato River valley, in Colombia, South America. The region has a population of approximately 36.4 million. Central America has at least 14 active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes due to its situation on the western edge of the Caribbean plate.
A substantial majority of the people of Central America are Native Americans or mestizos (people of mixed heritage, chiefly of Spanish and Native American descent). Along the narrow Caribbean coast blacks and mulattoes (people of mixed white and black-African backgrounds) predominate. About half of the people of Belize are of black-African or partly black-African ancestry.
Spanish is the official language of all Central American countries except Belize, where English is the language of government. Many highland Native Americans use traditional languages, such as Quiché, Mam, and Kekchí in Guatemala, and Chortí in Honduras. Some Native Americans also speak Spanish as well. Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion of Central America.

Information about South America

South America consists of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the Falkland Islands, the French Guinana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. South America, fourth largest of the Earth's seven continents (after Asia, Africa, and North America). The northern and western fringes are dominated by the Andes Mountains, the second highest mountain range in the world. Most of the eastern coast is fringed by the broader and generally less elevated highland areas of the Guiana and Brazilian massifs and the Patagonian Plateau. The main lowland is the vast Amazon Basin in the equatorial part of the continent; it is drained by the Amazon River, the world's second longest river.
South America has a 2007 estimated population of 380 million, or 6 percent of the world's people. Although South America's population has a diverse ethnic heritage, its principal elements are the Native Americans and the descendants of Spaniards, Portuguese, and African blacks. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil; English, of Guyana; Dutch, of Suriname; and French, of French Guiana. Among the scores of Native American languages, Quechua, Aymara, and Guaraní are spoken by the largest numbers of people. Portuguese is the most spoken language in South America as it's the official language of Brazil, which holds about 51% of the South American population. Spanish is the official language of most countries in the continent.
South America is unusual among the continents for its religious homogeneity. About 90 percent of the population is Roman Catholic. Most of the Protestants are in Brazil and Chile; the remainder are widely distributed, primarily in urban centers.
